Edge

Edge (5 x 7 inches; watercolor)

I like how Sterling Edwards and Tony Couch paint. They are both transparent watercolor artists and have put out several books and videos on how to paint with watercolor. Their paintings are very colorful, and the painting techniques they use create paintings that do not look overworked. The brushwork is loose and the paintings have a glow to them.

I am practicing some new techniques to loosen up my paintings a la Sterling Edwards and Tony Couch. I’m not real happy with the rocks, but it is practice after all!  The watercolor techniques Sterling Edwards and Tony Couch use are simple, but timing is critical. I find myself forgetting certain steps of the process and that does affect the final outcome. Overall, I am pleased with the final results of this practice painting!

Abandoned Tower

Abandoned Tower – A Model Railroad Memory (9 x 12 inches; watercolor)
I painted this watercolor for my friend, Bill Graham, who is a model railroader. This scene is from Bill’s former model railroad layout that was located in his basement a few years ago.

I am really pleased with how it turned out!

Planning a New Workshop

Getting ready for my next wet-on-wet oil painting workshop. I painted this demonstration painting earlier today, and my students will be using it for reference when they paint their own version. I will be setting up workshop dates for June and July of 2017!
