June Vacation Day 1

Cedar Creek (Day 1)

Spending a few days out of town on my vacation, and I am collecting some photo references for future paintings. Most of my pics didn’t make the cut, but this one did. Found this scene while driving along an old dirt road in the middle of nowhere. The only traffic I encountered along this road was a couple of tractors. Stopped on a low water crossing to get this shot.

Heavy Rains

“April showers bring May flowers.” They also bring floods.

This is a scene along Wolf Creek near Farmington, Missouri on April 29, 2017. Flash flooding has been occurring due to the amount of heavy rainfall we have been receiving this weekend. You can tell the water has receded, but more storms arrived shortly after this photo was taken. The spot where I am standing is surely under water at the time of this posting.

Hope you all are staying high and dry!

Sparta

Captured this photo on my drive home from picking apples.  This is one of my favorite scenes in Southern Illinois.  The depot once served the Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad (GM&O) at Sparta, Illinois. It was also used in the movie, “In The Heat of the Night” with Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier. It is now an art museum. Not sure about the caboose’s history, but I do like the GM&O logo painted on it. One of these days I am going to paint this scene en plein air!
